Christmas comes in house suit if you didn’t know and the one who wrap it is producers like Jay Vegas. Massive “Dirty Sax” EP brings five wicked tunes from who we picked two the best! The first one “All About House” is amazing disco-infused house with an acapella sample “It’s All About House Music”. On the other side we have also disco-infused house tune called “So Saxy” but with different drive and a touch of latin percussions and catchy saxophonic vibe that will hook to your feet as soon as you hear it. Whole EP is must-have and be sure to check it!

Sup, peeps? Long time no posts from me. I’ve been quite busy. We, as an ES Team of people involved in this blog have some news for you.

First of all, site will go under a major redesign. We feel it’s time for a change being that this design served us well for two years. New design will still be a two column black skin with gray shades here and there, so it will be similar to this one, but more user friendly and more simple that the existing one. Second, we’re probably moving to Com domain instead of Net. Don’t worry, we’ll make that .net automatically redirects you to .com, so that’s that.

We plan on launching these changes in January, but that remains to be seen. We don’t want to attach to a certain date and not make it until then.

So sit back and enjoy as new stuff comes along, cheers!

Being born in 1995 and having grown in a musical atmosphere thanks to his father, Alec Carlsson’s love of music started when he was nine years old. He first learned to mix, mainly techno and tech-house tracks influenced by Carl Cox’ style, and graduated to producing. Then, he has been refining his technique for about five years, exploring many kinds of music and grooves. In 2009, he signed his first EP on a UK based label and since, he keeps producing musics and remixes for the likes of Dust Traxx Records (Chicago), roXour (Patrick Alavi’s label), Nocturnal Recordings, and a few other labels. His music has been widely supported, played, or mentioned by the likes of Axwell, Roger Sanchez, Louis La Roche, The Phantom’s Revenge, Ridney, Jaymo, Hatiras, DJ DLG, TEPR, Justin Faust, Bit Funk, or Ghosts of Venice to name a few.

“Alec is one of those newcomers who have appeared on a few labels and seems to deliver the goods everytime.”

Italian producer Simone Fedi, hailing from Tuscany, takes things to a whole new level on this third release on Eskimo Recordings. “Bitter Devotion” is a vocal pop gem with a Balearic tinge, but its bittersweet vocals and the addictive melody will haunt you. For this tune Fedi, a multi-instrumentalist with a knack for pop music and a soft spot for vintage gear, joined forces with a mysterious singer named Lola Rent, and this turns out to be a winning team. Rare tune that you will enjoy listening from first till last second!

It was during the halcyon period of House music in the early 90s that MK (Marc Kinchen) established his reputation as one of House music’s finest producers and today he’s certainly regarded as one of its most influential. It’s not surprising given his set of credentials; he started out in Detroit making his own tracks and as a protégé of Techno god Kevin Saunderson where he developed his craft engineering Inner City records. A major label album deal saw him move to New York where he also became a prolific remixer for underground acts as well as the remix producer of choice for R&B or credible pop acts (including Jodeci, Bobby Brown, Pet Shop Boys and Moby) that sought his unique dance floor flavour. His successes led to the even headier heights working with Quincy Jones and later as a songwriter and producer with Will Smith, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Rihanna amongst others but it also meant a period away from the dance underground.

Now, MK has returned to House and he is the latest artist to be featured in Defected’s House Masters series with a new unmixed retrospective of his finest works which brings together a package of his original productions and remixes including some classics that previously existed only on vinyl.

House Masters MK by Defected Records

MK’s unique sound found fans across house music but also way beyond. He was the producer behind THE mix of The Nightcrawlers “Push The feeling On” that crossed over to sell over 3 million copies worldwide and he produced a range of seminal house tracks from Chez Daimier “Can You Feel It” to Byron Stingily “Love You The Right Way” (MK Dub), tracks that still get played and checked today.

But it was two works specifically that have really brought him back into focus; especially his production under the guise of 4th Measure Men, “4 You” which was recently remixed by Maya Jane Coles and then there was “Burning” another staunch house classic that has religious spins from luminaries across the board from Pete Tong to Tiefschwarz, Visonquest to Spencer Parker.

His musical legacy that has also influenced big pop artists of today who unashamedly emulate MK’s distinct vibe, recently American artists Dev and Pitbull both borrowed his sound to much success for major releases.

The diversity of his sound (and talent) allowed MK to effortlessly straddle both commercial and underground worlds. His tracks are played by both long-established DJs like Kerri Chandler, Todd Terry and both Masters At Work but importantly have influenced the new breed of contemporary producers. Ask Soul Clap, Round Table Knights, Maya Jane Coles or Jamie Jones and they will all acknowledge his influence on their own very current sound. It’s that special blend of melodic Korg M1 basslines and perfect chopped up vocals that created his signature New York-style that many seek to replicate.

There is no question that MK’s sound is unique, so here in your chance to get access to 20 of his most influential recordings. They have all been made available completely unedited, unmixed and DJ friendly for the very first time. Listen out for the 9 previously unreleased and rare classics only available on vinyl up until now including 4th Measure Men “Given” (MK Dub) and MK re-rub of Captain Hollywood “Rhythm Of Life” (MK 12” Mix). This is an album that will never leave your DJ wallet.

What other artists say about Marc Kinchen aka MK:

Jamie Jones “I remember hearing Burning back when I was about 14 living in Wales, listening to Pete Tongs essential selection, Its one of the records that helped convert me from drum n bass and hardcore to house music.”
Eli from Soul Clap – “Push The Feeling” is the most obvious MK remix to mention, but that’s why it’s had such an impact on my DJ life. MK’s “The Dub of Doom” always works on any dance floor… probably anywhere in the universe”
Frankie Knuckles – “MK, A giant Inspiration in House Music”
Kevin Saunderson - “his records have hooks and they are very catchy in the clubs. They simply work, he knows what to do, he is still around and he still has it”
Louie Vega from Masters At Work – “MK will always be one of my favorite producer / remixers. He was ahead of his time with his music and to this day continues to inspire us all”
Felix (Basement Jaxx) – “MK-A true innovator and originator, a pioneer of true deep house”
Ryan Crosson (Visionquest) – “The original of 4th Measure Men “4 You” is a real classic”
Kerri Chandler – “I don’t think I ever DJed a set without at least playing 1 MK track”
Pitbull – “I think what makes Marc special is that he is someone that has always been ahead of his time with music which is genius in his own right”

ATFC – apart from being a legend – is one of the world’s hardest working DJ and uber producers. It is true he has been rocking dance floors since many of you were knee high to a dj booth but that has just improved his skills. He is versatile and innovative, he constantly reinvents his sound and he simply rocks every time. His recent productions have smashed it at Beatport, look him up he has a discography as long as your arm from his historic chart topping releases like “Bad Habit” and “Sleep Talk” to download store No.1’s like “The Conversation” and “Dazzle EP” to his brand new “Shots from The Hips EP”. Here he returns once again to mix Nikki Beach In The House, an album that represents one of the most glamorous beach clubbing brands in the world. This is where he tells us all about it…

But first, before you read be sure to play Nikki Beach In The House Mixed by ATFC & Roman Rosati – Album Sampler and to support it by buying it on 31st of October! Sip some drink, play it and enjoy reading!

Nikki Beach In The House – Mixed by ATFC & Roman Rosati – Album Sampler by Defected Records

^1 Hey ATFC. How are you doing? Are you somewhere sunny today?

I am most days as I live in Spain on the Costa Blanca. We’ve had a very long hot summer this year and it’s still in the 30′s even in late October.

^2 Our ears have missed you…where have you been??

Ah bless you. Working and playing hard. Do you think these masterpieces are created overnight?? They take months of honing, sculpting and musical massaging to refine them into the faultless gems that they are. Seriously though, there have been a few tracks in progress which all seem to have taken shape recently and none have been quite ready until now. I’ve been travelling, djing, producing, entertaining…the usual stuff. It’s been a busy summer all round. I’ve gained more passport stamps from Asia, America, Canada and Europe since my last release and national stocks of Spanish Vino Rosado have depleted somewhat.

^3 How has your year in beach clubbing been? Can you tell us about any places with a special vibe…?

It’s been very “beachy” this summer actually and it looks to be more of a trend as time goes on. Montenegro has a small but very beautiful coastline and an afternoon gig I played there was really cool. Ushuaia Ibiza is, of course, on another level with its festival sized stage and multi-million euro surroundings. Some of the most enjoyable times, however, were spent playing soul, funk, jazz and disco on the beach in my home town Javea. Friends, family, mojitos and a warm sea breeze all added to the perfect atmosphere.

^4 What would you like to hear if you were lounging by a pool?

It’s funny you should ask…. check my pool-side set from Vocal Booth Weekender 2011 out!

Download ATFC – Vocal Booth Weekender 2011 Mix

^5 Why do you think Nikki Beach have been awarded the prestige of “Sexiest Place on Earth”?

Maybe I wasn’t there the day the judges turned up?

^6 You are about to release a new mix with them, tell us about any the vibe you went for and the tracks you included.

I tried to audibly represent the warm orange sunset glow that slowly dims into a mocha brown and ends with the fizzing darkness of midnight. I wanted to make the 74 minutes a perfect launch-pad to take you from pool to dance-floor and basically send you off into the night not wanting to stop until daylight. It’s a little more chilled than a straight up club set from me but not noodly either. There are a couple of new tracks from ATFC, some current hotties like Ame’s remix of Osunlade ‘Envision’ and ‘The Tide’ by Mark Fanciulli and oldies like Tropical Soundclash and Belo Horizonte.

^7 How did you turn “When The Needle Drops” into a Nikki Beach anthem?

To me, the track just screams “pool party”. It’s a little disco, a little Hip Hop, a little R’N'B and totally feel-good so it seemed to sum up the ethos of Nikki Beach perfectly. I was a little presumptuous calling it an anthem ahead of time (and without them knowing about it!) but I hope come next summer it would have earned the title.

^8 Another future release on the compilation is Geetah (exclusive to the comp I believe), can you tell us a bit about it?

It’s just a good guitar led groove so I thought I’d be really clever, change a couple of letters and call it “Geetah”. It’ll be released as one half of the next Shots From The Hip instalment next year and I rather like it, it has a Harry ‘Choo Choo’ feel about it.

^9. Is it a struggle to keep producing original material, or do you find it easier the more experienced you become?

Yes, with House Music you do feel like you’re trying to re-invent the wheel sometimes but then something will snap into place and you feel as excited as you did when you made your first record. There’s very little that’s truly original nowadays but I find keeping one foot in the past and the other edging forward keeps me hobbling on the right track. What I am learning with experience is balance. Not to throw myself for too long into one direction and not be scared of making tracks that aren’t meant to tear the roof off. These days I try to shake things up constantly with tracky EP’s, quality songs and big room cuts.

^10. From someone who was there the first time around, what do you make of the current trend of backward-looking productions, with old records from MK, Kerri Chandler etc.. currently representing the in-vogue sound?

It’s great because I don’t have to buy them again and I even have the B-sides to play! I’ve spent the past week recording and archiving old vinyl (something I’ve done many times before) and it’s amazing how I can still find something that catches my ear afresh. There were, of course, other producers who were hot back then so it’s nice to dig out something equally as good as “Burnin” or “Hallelujah” that can surprise people even more. Quality always prevails. These productions and their producers weren’t popular by accident first time around and essentially the hooks and musical elements work just as well today as they did 20 years ago. All that sometimes needs a little update is the power and punchiness of the drums. That said the current trend even does away with that need as guys like Jamie Jones, Tensnake and others champion the retro in its entirety.

^11. Which artist above all others has impressed you this year?

What recently made me “wow” was the announcement of The Swedish House Mafia selling out Madison Square Garden and Milton Keynes Bowl. That’s a pretty big deal for any artist, let alone three DJs who not long ago were fairly happy reaching the Dj Top 100. Whether you’re into their music or not it’s hard not to be impressed by the machine that achieved that.
Musically, however, David Herrero has a good groove as have UK young blood Grant Nalder and Roul & Doors.

12. Are you looking to collaborate with anyone on future projects?

I have a collaboration with David Penn set to drop soon titled La Verdad (Sentimiento) and I’d like to work on some more stuff with him. Also, The Shapeshifters and I have an idea we’re working on which we’re pretty excited about. There are others but nothing confirmed yet so I can’t say more.

Big thanks to ATFC for this lovely intreview and Toni T from Defected for giving us all the proper info! Enjoy in top house quality!

After a six month hiatus, ATFC returns to the loving embrace of Defected with a superb slice of vocal, tech-edged house music. Penned by Rae but performed by Lisa Shaw - “Walk Away” is typically ATFC; slick, driving beats, dominant synth stabs and polished, techy drums with Shaw’s superb vocal bringing the whole package together perfectly. As ever with ATFC there are a few version to choose from too, with the Lektrosoul Dub and Instrumental versions stripping back the vocals to leave the elements of the track exposed, while VB Weekender versions build themselves around a funk-strut bassline and dreamy chords.

Something fresh from Ikanos kitchen we prepared today for you! A lovely funky-tech tune that comes in great remix package that has something for everyone!

Misty is a big talent from Egypt and on the spotlight is his great “Filter Funk” tune with loads of funky-tech vibes making it groovy all the way as the fuzzy bassline roles.

If that’s not your cup of tea, then you can pick really outstanding John Deere remix which embraces piano rolls, funky bassline and wicked percussion to the point that you can’t ignore the tune, giving it a darker vibe!

Sasha Agressor gives his interpretation of the tech vibes and adds a little of chopped voices to spice the whole thing up but still keeping it close to original.

First but not least, remix on Ikanos Records is done by Greek talent producers – Drana & Joachim – who changes whole tune giving it noisy atmosphere of underground techno vibes!

Hassan Abou Alam dub gets closer to the clean hits making it catchy more with rhythm and noise then with the melody.

Thanks for support in advance, we will continue to provide releases that will have something for everyone! Enjoy!
