My dear stationers, thanks for support over the years… We are going even better this year and we are getting serious. We took some time off from partying and gigging to present you “The Best Of 2010″. We went over thousands of tunes and we picked the best for you from every genre. Picking was hard, and it was based upon quality, hype, support, downloads and many more things that for some reason make track unique. I hope you will enjoy and give your comments on what is good or bad. Try not to be too much personal, but objective. Also again Electro Station Team wishes you the best in 2011!
We have around 30 genres and groups for “The Best Of 2010″ and I will give a quick brief who were the contestants and why are these tunes the best in our opinion (if “the best” even exist).
^1 Best Acapella -The Shapeshifters – Helter Skelter (Accapella) / 320k / 02:41 / 6.2 MB
Many acapellas went powerful this year but we think that “Helter Skelter” is pretty unique with the lyrics and the amount of skill required to implement this tune. There were never a decent remix or bootleg of this acapella which makes this acapella even more significant!
Followers: Arthur Baker Featuring Nona Hendrix And Ladonna – Tear Down The Walls (Acapella Tool) and DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto Featuring Dama Pancha & Dj Mankila – Vem Rebola (Accapella)
^2 Best African House – DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto featuring The Serafim Crew – Paris Luanda (Main Mix) / 320k / 06:59 / 17 MB
This year is probably one of the best years for “African House”. Gregory & Salto went into Angola to seek their inspiration and did a marvelous job with their national instruments and vocals. “Paris Luanda” made the biggest hype so therefore we give a slight advantage.
Followers: DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto Featuring Dama Pancha & Dj Mankila – Vem Rebola, Nu Rhythmix – Shakedown (Remix), Emmanuel Jal – Kuar (Henrik Schwarz Remix), Djeff And Silyvi Feat. Mili – Nawe (The Wizard Brian Coxx Remix)
^3 Best Album – Chris Lake & Marco Lys – Cross The Line (Album) / ALL HQ / 137.2 MB
9 tracks – 9 gems in different styles, for every DJ something. Chris Lake & Marco Lys did a perfect job in 2010! Probably the most successful collaboration of these two producers in 2010. A little bit of UK, a little bit of Italian in house!
Followers: Deadmau5 – For Lack Of Better Name (Album), Studio Apartment – 2010
^4 Best Balkan House – Dan Castro – Eastern Ensemble (Original Mix) / 320k / 05:43 / 13.1 MB
Balkan Peninsula was hot in 2010 with many tunes with Balkan trumpets and other instruments. It was REALLY hard to pick the right tune but we think Dan Castro won it fair and square. The tune went massive when Riva Star played it live @ biggest Balkan Festival – EXIT 2010. It was released on Cr2 Records and immediately caught newcomer Dan Castro in the spotlight!
Followers: Sebastien Leger – Balkamaniac (Original Mix), Dirty Secretz – Beta (Original Mix), Albin Myers – Jump (Original Version), Rene Amesz – Coriander (Original Mix), Riva Starr – Bulgarian Chicks
^5 Best Blast From Past – Jean Jacques Smoothie – 2 People (Louis La Roche Remix) / 320k / 03:55 / 9 MB
Many old tunes as usual come back to life in house music, but “2 People” is one of the most beautiful tracks and yet still one of the most demanding tracks to remix. Louis La Roche did a great job, sticking to original with a bit work on beats and bassline. Sometimes just a few right tweaks are enough for the bomb!
Followers: Afropeans – Better Things (Syke N Sugarstarr Alternative Mix)
^6 Best Bigroom House – Green Velvet – Flash (Nicky Romero Remix) / 320k / 05:41 / 13 MB
I had many discussions on “What is Big Room House?” and literally it means “BIG ROOM” house. Imagine some big club or warehouse where this can be played with massive speakers. Well, there are certain tunes that are made to play in such a place. Not on festivals or in ordinary clubs, but in BIG ROOM. So therefore Nicky Romero did a great remix with these pumping tribal beats and sick synths. Many tunes were in game, but we still think this one marked BIG in the 2010!
Followers: Afrojack – Esther (George F, Eran Hersh & Darmon Blow Mix), Mell Tierra – Seven Sins (Original Mix)
^7 Best Bootleg & Mashup
Steve Angello – Knas (John de Sohn Bootleg) / 320k / 06:28 / 14.8 MB
Chris Lake & LYS – We Can Rise La Tromba (Stereo Palma Mashup) / 256k / 07:29 / 17.4 MB
Bootleg and Mash-Up are pretty similar but bootleg is often more mixed then mash-up. As for “Knas” bootleg we think John De Sohn did perfect job and “We Can Rise La Tromba” became an official Defected release which was firstly gave free as Stereo Palma mash-up. Many wicked bootlegs/mash-ups were done this year but these two marked the 2010 year.
That’s it for the first part of “The Best Of 2010″. Stay tuned since we gonna post next time the best classic house, house tune, electro house, deep house and many interesting tunes! Enjoy!
