We had a chance to hooked up with a man who is more then 15 years active DJ and producent in the world of House, a man who was nominated for “Best House Act 2008” for beatport awards, a man who is well known by continiuosly playing on 3 or 4 CDJs behind the decks, a man who is owner of S2G Productions and finally a man who is well known to us by his grooving vibe we can hear in his tracks. We are talking about Chris Montana! Enjoy in the next few minutes by reading a short interview about his way up to the top, his upcoming tracks and gigs and his thoughts about House music at all.
^1 Hi Chris! Its an honor to exchange a few words with such a house master as you are. Ok, for beginning can you introduce yourself in a few sentences?
Its an honor for me. Really like your page. I’m Chris Montana, DJ and Producer from Munich, Germany. Playing all over the world and I also own my own label, called S2G-Productions.
^2 Since when are you into music and how its all began?
I always loved music. I grew up in the 80ies and i was so fascinated by these synthie-sounds which were so famous in that decade. I started to DJ when I was 15. I played all those highschool-parties for Halloween, Christmas and stuff like that. With 18 I had the first residency in a very nice club called Myers. When I was studying (I’m a university-teacher for Geography and Physical Education) I always spend my holidays in Ibiza. In 2000 I got the chance to play at the famous El Divino Club. In the same time I started to produce. My first track – “Kienzle & Iberle – Touch me” was quiet famous in the clubs and then I grew and grew…
^3 We can say that you really hard work this year. What more can we except from you? Are there any “secret weapons” for summer?
Yessss, for sure. I have three singles coming up this summer. And I’m very proud of each one. First is “Summer Lovin” on S2G-Productions. A little more catchy vocal with an awesome mix of my big buddy Chris Moody. Then I have one track together with Etienne Ozborne, coming in August on Housesession. Progressive house track with amazing vocals by Polina Grifitths. We have a stunning remix package with mixes from Good Guys, Christian Luke and the Tune Brothers. This can be one of the Ibiza-Bombs 2010. And last but not least I have a new tune on Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Records together with Denis The Menace. BOMB! Is all I can say…
^4 How is it looks creating one of your tracks? One day in your studio, at all. And how long do you need to produce one track?
First I’m looking for an idea. Means a cool sample or vocal. Then I start to create a groove with a nice beat. And at the end I do the arrangement. Sometimes I need 3-4 hours, sometimes weeks until I’m happy with the result.
^5 Theres a lots of house masters on the scene today. Can you tell us who was and still is your all-time favorite? There must be someone!
Yes, my big idol is Roger Sanchez. He always gives 110% when he DJs and he is always faithful to his own style.
^6 Do you have any advice for those who had just started with productions, how to achieve high level, some tips?
Always believe in yourself and try to find your own style. In these days there is too much copiing and sampling of others ideas and beats.
^7 If you are not producer and DJ, what do you think you would been?
As I said before I have a degree as Teacher and I have also a degree a journalist. So there was a lot of possibilities.
^8 You’re running a S2G Productions for about 3 years now. What story is behind it? I mean how you come on idea to create it? Lots of bombs fall from it, are there any more prepared for release in near future?
In the beginning it was Thomas Gold, Chriss Ortega and myself who did S2G and pushed it a lot. Meanwhile the guys left to focus on their own business. We are still in good contact and support each other.
The idea was to build our own base for our releases. Independent of major labels with their tight deals.
For the next months there will be my new single “Summer lovin” coming out this week. Also there will be a new track from vocalist Terri B. and a lot of other nice stuff.
^9 Ok, tell us few words about gigs shedule. Are there any big upcoming event and are there any chance to see you in Serbia in future?
Oh, I’m travelling soo much during next months. Of course, I will play in Ibiza a few times, Moscow, Odessa, Dubai, Brasil… too much to mention. For Serbia there is unfortunately nothing planned, yet. I would love to. Any suggestions? Hehe…
^10 What are your thoughts about illegal music sharing via blogs, forums etc…? Is it bad for producents work and business or is it useful on some way?
Huh, difficult question. For the industry and business its very bad. Cause as label I loose a lot of money. And, I need to invest money in new tracks and officework and stuff like that. So, on 1 sale there is probably 100 illegal downloads… also as producer you loose a lot, but – if the people on the blogs like you - they also promote you a lot in a way nobody was thinking about 5 years ago…
^11 Ok, hit us with your associtation of words from the list below:
Serbia – I want to go there
Sun – Ibiza
Air – I cant live without
Life – I beautiful
Vision – I love to travel, so I wanna play in every country you can imagine
