Chris Lake Post

In collaboration with MTV Serbia, we bring you exclusive interview with none other than Chris “mofo” Lake. :) His production is incredible and his mixes are neat!

Intro:

Chris Lake is globally one of the most recogniseable producer and DJ comming to us all away from cloudy England. His work has been supported by Carl Cox, Pete Tong, Sander Kleinenberg, Deadmau5, Sebastian Leger, ATFC and others. He also did remixes for Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams and Mark Ronson. His track “Changes” that he made in 2006 went into house classics and his debut album “Crazy” that featured songs like “If You Knew”, “Tokyo” and “Only One” went massive worldwide!

Chris Lake made in 2009 outstanding track called “La Tromba” that was supported by all famous and non-famous DJs worldwide.

We caught Chris in between the gigs and wanted to ask him a few questions about his future work, his gigs and his life generally. :)

1 As far as we know, you are currently touring worldwide, so tell us what are you up to now? (where are you giging next and what are your plans for New Year’s eve)

Hey. Well, you’ve caught me at a good time. I’ve taken most of December off to spend some time with my family, as I don’t get to see them for Christmas or NYE, and I’ve also been spending loads of time in the studio, writing new material for next year. It’s been an amazing month for me, and I’m feeling massively inspired.

2 You were in Serbia in 2007 (if I remember good :D ) when will you come again and what are you impressions on Serbian scene? (Any nice experiences here? :) )

I was there in 2007, and it was such an unfortunate situation, as it was an open air party in the summer, and on the night of the event, the skies opened, so many people didn’t come for the party. I was fortunate enough to be shown round Belgrade, and taken to taste some local foods. The only downside was, everything I did, I got very wet!

3 You did remixes for celebrity divas like Madonna and Kylie Minoque. Is there any (MTV) artists that you would like to collaborate in future?

Amy Winehouse! Reckon that’d be a right laugh!

4 What are your top3 tracks of the 2009?

Hmmm, ok, this is without looking through my wallet. Top 3 floorfillers would be 3. FLG – Amplifier, 2. Seb Ingrosso – Kidsos 1. Lake & Lys – La Tromba

5 What does your set up looks like (at home or in studio)?

Well, I’ve just moved into a new studio that I’m very very proud of. It’s small, but got an amazing vibe, with my macpro, a virus ti, nord 3, moog voyager, microphones, and loads of plugins. That’s the bulk of it.

6 What productions are you working on at the moment?

Well, just finished a new Lake and Lys release, coming out 25th Dec, as well as a new minimal(ish) track with Deadmau5, coming out on mau5trap on 26th Jan. This week we also finished another Lake and Lys single that I’m SUPER happy with. That will come out later in the year. Got another collaboration with Funkagenda which we hope will grab some attention over in Miami… so all in all… busy times.

7 What do you prefer to use from gear when you are playing?

I’m still playing with CDJs, FX and a mixer. I keep the technology simple up on stage at the moment.

8 What’s your opinion about internet sharing music and sites that post music freely? Do you see there any advantages or disantvantages for producers/DJs?

Social networking sites like soundcloud… I have no problem with at all. Sites that download and share my music illegally? No comment. :)

9 Where do you get all the inspiration? You got so deep lyrics in your tracks. Where does all that come from?

I always say the same thing for this one; my inspiration comes from everyday life. The moods you feel, the ups the downs, anything that triggers the senses. I guess that’s why my productions can be so erratic.

10 What advice you have for upcoming producers/DJs?

Try find a quality that will make you stand out from everyone else on the scene. An individual sound that works is normally the best way. If you look at all the successful producers, they have a signature sound that, once you listen to one of their tracks, you instantly know it’s them. This goes a long way.

11 Can we do “one-shot” questions? I tell you one word, you tell me your association.

a) MTV – music

b) Serbia – rain

c) Internet – life

d) Great DJ – Danny Howells

e) Respect – Love

12 Any shoutous for MTV crowd and friends/family?

Love you Mum!! :)
